Enjoying the road together from coast to coast

For the first time we are going to do this joint journey from the Spanish west to the east coast through the Pyrenees especially for those who want to join individually or in pairs or small groups.  CyclingInGirona.nl provides accommodation, all meals, information about the routes, care during the stages and luggage transport. In the evening we have dinner with the whole group in a restaurant. The journey starts in the beautiful Basque cycling-crazy city of San Sebastian. You cycle in 7 stages from west to east through the Pyrenees. Every day we have beautiful and challenging routes with a short and a long variant through breathtaking landscapes. We start in the morning with an extensive briefing about the stage. In the evening there is time during dinner to exchange the stories of the day.

Highlights along the way

On this trip you will encounter a lot of beautiful landscapes and mountains. You’ll start in the amazing green and lovely Spanish Basque Country where you can enjoy the friendly rolling hills. In the next stages on you’re gonna meet he real higher and rougher mountains, such as:

  • Alto de las Coronas
  • Alto del Puerto de Matamachos
  • Callado de Pedralva
  • Alto de Bonansa
  • Puerto del Cantó
  • Coll de Port
  • Coll de Merolla
  • Coll de Canes

When you’ve conquered all these big giants you’ll have your reward: the last part of the journey you feel tike flying to the Mediterrean Sea.

Join a group or book a private tour

We do group bookings all year round, we advise in the period June to September due to the temperature in the high mountains. you can see the prices at the bottom of this page. Be on time to book as we work with small hotels that have limited availability.

Twice a year we organize a “joint” Coast to Coast week. See dates below. Ideal for when you want to join alone or with a small group.

BEAUTIFUL AND SPECTACULAR STAGES FROM COAST TO COAST ACROSS THE PYRENEES

Tour information

During this cycling trip, our Coast to Coast guide will accompany you for aid stations along the way, moving the luggage and the necessary encouragement during the stages. A good condition is required for the 6 stages in the mountains. Our enthusiastic supervisor provides a coffee stop and a lunch stop. You don’t have to worry about anything and just enjoy the amazingly beautiful mountain landscapes and the suffering on the cols.

You will receive the route book from us in advance with the GPX tracks. On most of the days we have a short and a long(er) versions of the route. So you can choose per day which route you take and if you like to do an extra climb.

Day 1: prologue

Distance: 45 km & Elevation: 600 m
After arrival and introduction it is time to warm up your legs in a prologue. Tomorrow we really start.

Day 2: San Sebastian – Pamplona

Distance: 115 km & Elevation: 2600 m
The first stage goes through the Spanish Basque Country. It is a tough ride, with two short climbs (Alto de Aritxulegi and Dólmenes Lesaka), one long (Alto Gorostieta-Gaina) and mainly hilly roads through a green landscape.

Day 3: Pamplona – Siresa

Distance: 110 km & Elevation: 1800 m
Today goes largely through Navarre. Also today it goes up and down through hilly area. The first climb is aptly named Alto de las Coronas. The longest climb of the day, the Alto del Puerto de Matamachos, is right on the border of Aragon and Huesca. Then there is a tasty (climbing) dessert before you reach the hotel.

Day 4: Siresa – Broto

Distance: 118 km & Elevation: 1700 m
We leave the Navarra region and continue our way via Huesca and Aragon. The first long climb is to the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña. The highest point of the day is the Collado de Pedralva.

Day 5: Broto – El Pont de Suert

Distance: 112 km & Elevation: 2300 m
This will be an easy day for navigating. Certainly not in terms of effort. Three real climbs and a bouncer await you. From the departure you actually immediately start at the Barranco Las Gloces. The longest today is the Alto de Bonansa. 1st climb: Barranco Las Gloces 11km 500hm, 2nd climb: Fordada del Toscar 10km 400hm, 3rd climb 12km 400hm, 4th climb: Alto de Bonansa 15km 510hm

Day 6: El Pont de Suert – La Seu d’Urgell

Distance: 115 km & Elevation: 2442 m
Today we leave Aragon and cycle into Catalonia. There are three beautiful climbs on the program. The first first the Port de la Crue de Perves, then follows a beautiful climb to 1700 with altitude and the bouncer and also the longest is the Puerto del Cantó.

Day 7: La Seu d’Urgell – Ripoll

Distance: 120 km & Elevation: 2300 m
Today a tough day with a long stage and many altimeters. Four real climbs await you. The first is the Mirador de la Trava, then the Coll de Port, then the climb at Serra dels Lladres and before you can enjoy a hot shower and a recovery drink you have to deal with the Coll de Merolla. Before going to sleep you will look back on this stage tired but satisfied.

Day 8: Ripoll – L’Escala – Girona

Distance: 133 km & Elevation: 1450 m
The last leg of this beautiful cycling trip. Another long stage. However, this one is mainly downhill. However, the Coll de Canes is still waiting for you on which you can show your increased climbing abilities. At Olot there is another small climb, the Volca de Croscàt. Then you fly to the coast in L’Escala. There you tap the Costa Brava and in good weather you can take a dip. Finally, we cycle to Girona and we put a very nice point behind the journey.

You spend the nights and have breakfast the comfortable and bicycle-friendly hotels along the route. At the end of your stage the guide has already taken you luggage to the hotel

You can ride with us from Girona to the starting point (we have 8 spots in our bus). Or you can travel to the starting point yourself. If you travel by car, you can drive to the end point Cerbere, where we pick you up and take you to the starting point.

All meals are included. On most days we have dinner at the hotel where we are staying that night. And on some evenings we dine in a restaurant that we have reserved in advance.
